Description

The ICT Intern – Software Developer will provide hands-on technical support across Amref's software development lifecycle, working alongside senior developers on real production systems. The intern will gain practical experience in full-stack development (React/.NET), API design, debugging, and collaborative engineering practices, while contributing directly to platforms that support Amref's health programming across Africa.

Qualifications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Frontend & Backend Development

Design and develop web applications using React on the frontend and C# / .NET on the backend.
Build, consume, and maintain RESTful APIs using the .NET Framework / .NET Core.
Assist in implementing UI components, forms, and data views following existing design systems and component libraries.
Support integration of frontend applications with backend APIs and databases.
Quality Assurance & Debugging

Develop, test, and document software to ensure quality, reliability, and scalability.
Debug and troubleshoot frontend and backend issues, ensuring optimal performance and user experience.
Write and execute basic unit/integration tests to validate functionality before release.
Support identification and resolution of bugs reported by users or QA processes.
Collaboration and Process

Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of development processes.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (developers, business analysts, program staff) to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Use version control (Git) for collaborative development, following team branching and commit conventions.
Participate in stand-ups, sprint planning, and technical discussions as part of an Agile-style workflow.
Documentation and Learning

Document code, technical decisions, and setup processes to support maintainability and knowledge transfer.
Keep up to date with the latest technology and programming trends, sharing relevant learnings with the team.
Support maintenance of internal technical documentation and repositories.
Qualifications

Education, Experience and Skills

A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of C#, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
Exposure to frontend development using React.js through academic projects, personal projects, or coursework.
Basic understanding of .NET Core / ASP.NET Core and backend development concepts.
Understanding of RESTful APIs and how to consume APIs in frontend applications.
Knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP), data structures, algorithms, and software development fundamentals.
Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
Basic knowledge of relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server and SQL.
Familiarity with development tools such as Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Eagerness to learn new technologies and apply feedback.
Good time management skills and the ability to meet assigned deadlines.
